Hurricon 2022 Photo Report: A Bit Late...

It has been several months since my last post, which was photos from HMGS-South's Recon 2022 convention. I thought I had deleted the photos in this post, but last night I found them squirreled away. Ironically, my son and I are heading down to Recon 2023, where I’ll be taking many more photos than before. (They should be better because I reset my camera after I took these.) Even though we live in Seminole County, we’ll be staying at the hotel for the first time, so we have games booked in every block from Thursday night through Sunday morning. I think Jeremy and I are only playing one game together, on Sunday morning.

Oh yeah. Recon will also be a special time for us. Friday is my 60th birthday! I cannot believe it. We're tossing a party Sunday afternoon at one of the Disney World resorts.

As always, I love to hear from fellow gamers and enthusiasts. Please post your thoughts and ideas in the Comments below.

Warmaster: A quick update. Today, I downloaded the new version of Warmaster Revolution, which was posted yesterday, and the latest Army lists. Earlier this week, I began reworking the Empire set to bring it back in line with the size of other “figures,” such as the High Elves. This has been bugging me for ages. I also bought several packs of Pendraken 10mm for an Empire army—more on that later. Onto the Hurricon pics!

Warpaint hosted by Jim Riley
Jeremy and I played a large 25mm game of Warpaint hosted by Jim Riley. I played on the Apache side.
Figures were mostly Foundry. Here is the settlement we Apaches are going to raid.
The cavalry players strategize how to head off our Apache attack and reach the settlement before we do. A word of advice: Don't dismount at the first sign of Apaches on the hills. Just charge though toward the ranch. ;-)
I loved the rolling hills.

Rob Hall Memorial Game

Bill Moreno setting up the game. I hope Bill is doing better. He and his son are so nice, and it's a pleasure gaming with them

The Rest of the Photos

Trailer Park Warlords of the Apocalypse.

My gang of 3 mutated critters. These are 3D printed.

I always wanted to paint and build a winter game. This was an amazing table.

A game of ALdG. I have the rules, but Warmaster keeps pulling at me.

I enjoy how HMGS-South has a varied mix of historical, pulp, fantasy, and sci-fi. They even had large Battletech and Battlefleet Gothic games. No 6mm EpicArmageddon, another game I always wanted to do.

Love this Fantasy Trip set-up.

Raygun Rayborn and the Red Planet: Factions

As promised, here are photos of the factions I mentioned in my previous post about the Raygun Rayborn game from Recon 2022. My son will playing in the Raygun game at the upcoming Hurricon 2022 convention. I told him to take plenty of photos. :-)

Raygun Rayborn and the Red Planet: Pulp Sci-Fi Goodness

Alex Paul ran a 10-player, 28mm Barsoom-themed game at Recon 2022, using a lot of custom terrain. Most of the Barsoom miniatures are from Tin Man Miniatures and Bronze Age Miniatures. You might also see some re-purposed miniatures from games like Star Wars.

Alex used his homebrew rules he calls "Stunning Stories." I didn't get to play in the game because it took place at the same time I was playing "To the Strongest," which I wrote about in the previous post. Since I was near this game, I did get to watch everyone having fun. It was a centerpiece game that afternoon, and probably the most elaborate setup of the con. I love pulp sci-fi. Hats off the Alex!

Today, I'm posting photos of the game table before the game began. I tried moving around the table in a logical fashion. Later this week, I've scheduled photos of eight of the ten factions and their objective sheets.

Where Have I Been?

BTW sorry for the long delay in posting. Back in May I began having pain in my left shoulder. By the end of the month, it was crazy painful to move it much, so off to the ortho. After X-rays and MRI, looks like I tore one of the tendons a bit and inflamed the you-know-what out of the rest of the shoulder. I haven't slept much in three months! I think I'm going to change my address to the physical therapy office, where I go twice a week. I'm improving a lot, but just typing this post has bothered me. It's been a rough summer. (I did get a new tablet, which has helped me get away from the desk.) Thank goodness Hurricon is coming in a few weeks--I need some good fun! Next Recon I will be running at least one game--more on those thoughts later. I'll do some photo dumps to get the rest of Recon 2022 posted. On to the pics of the game. I hope you like them!

West Wind's GH-47 Nosferatu #2: First Fig Finished

Early last week, the weather broke here in Central Florida long enough to take a couple finished miniatures outside and give them a good spraying of Testors. Below is the finished figure from the second of West Wind's pack of Nosferatu, or would that be Nosferati?

Since we last saw him reaching out to touch someone, I painted his nails, painted the metal things on his outfit (I have no idea what they are!), and highlighted his collar thing using P3 Trollblood Base. All in all, I'm happy how he turned out. I really wanted to paint black nails on him because I felt they really "sold" the miniature. However, I never want to paint nails again! They are quite fiddly.

This figure really needs to be on a base that looks like stone or something because his outfit rides along base edge. I really don't want to bury it in brown ballast and dead grass. I just have to order some green putty/epoxy stuff for the base.

Go ahead. Pull my finger. I dare you!

Darn it! I can't open the crypt door! I just did my nails!

You'd be grumpy too if every time you put down your arm you'd have the other one pop up instead!

And now for something you never get to see--the back side of water! Oh wait. Wrong ride.

Okay, people, who got the sticky blue stuff all over the floor? I just got done cleaning it!

I'm not touching you! Hee hee. I'm not touching you!
